On Monday, May 20, 2019, the InsurTech Week kicked off at the premises of the STARTPLACE Cologne with its first content format: The "Legal Day". There, experts from the InsurLab Germany member companies spent Bach Langheid Dallmayr (BLD) and Clyde & Co a day with startups and dealt with their legal challenges and questions.
Learn from professionals
After first keynotes from Carsten Dietert (Head of Legal at ELEMENT Insurance AG), Martin Schaaf (specialist lawyer for insurance law at BLD) as well as Nigel Brook and Wynne Lawrence (Head of Reinsurance & Associate - Specialty International Risk and Reinsurance Clyde & Co), the participants had the opportunity to sign up for 2 breakout sessions of 40 minutes each, in order to talk about their preverted topics in groups of three to a maximum of ten people with the corresponding specialist lawyers. Here, the participants could choose from a total of 8 sessions that dealt with current hot topics such as company formation, outsourcing, smart contracts and other exciting topics. Following the breakout sessions, the participating startups were able to discuss their individual issues with a lawyer of their choice.
Strengthening Legal Understanding Together
"Legal Day took place for the second time this year with Clyde & Co and BLD and was once again a great success. Together with our member companies, we are very pleased to be able to focus more strongly on the topic of 'legal' in the startup industry. In the context of the InsurTech Week 2019 the format was in very good hands," reports Herbert Jansky, Network Manager for Insurances & Companies at InsurLab Germany. This satisfaction was also visible to the participants, who stayed after the sessions for a casual exchange and a cold Kölsch in the STARTPLACE lingered.
The Legal Day as the starting signal for InsurTech Week 2019
The Legal Day was, after the InsurTech Week Special of the Web de Cologne e.V. Breakfasts with Cologne Mayor Henriette Reker, the first inhatls-driven event of this year's InsurTech Week. For the second time in a row, this event was jointly organized by STARTPLACE and InsurLab Germany. A total of 10 event formats around the topic of InsurTechs and digitalization of the insurance industry awaited the participants during the theme week.
