Innovations in the insurance sector rarely emerge in isolation. It is often networks, ecosystems and continuous exchange that determine whether an approach establishes itself in the market. The development of SkenData is closely linked to InsurLab Germany - not as selective support, but as long-term, active involvement in the ecosystem.SkenData

The team around CEO and founder Sven Jantzen has been a companion of the InsurLab network for several years. The continuous exchange with insurers and other market players accompanied the successful development of SkenData and contributed to sharpening the use case early on, developing it further and anchoring it in the market.

The use case: building data as a basis for decision-making
SkenData addresses a central bottleneck in building insurance: the availability of reliable, standardized building data for valuation and risk assessment. In practice, manual processes, heterogeneous data sources and media disruptions often lead to inefficiencies and uncertainties in underwriting.

With Wert14, SkenData delivers automated building data. As a building operating system, the platform combines value, risk and energy and makes them relevant for decision-making via API and AI (SkenView, SkenConnect).

Development and establishment in the market
The development of SkenData is closely linked to InsurLab Germany. As a long-standing member, the team used various formats early on to present, discuss and further develop its own approach. The focus was not on individual pilot projects, but on the technical reflection of requirements, the comparability of different use cases and the ability to connect to real insurance processes.

This continuous engagement with different market logics helped to gradually sharpen and standardize the use case. One visible result of this development is the recognition of SkenData's valuation methodology by several insurers, who take the data provided into account in underwriting and acceptance logics.

The InsurLab members HDI, AXA, ARAG, R+V, Alte Leipziger, DEVK, GVV, Concordia, BGV, INTER, Mecklenburgische, Rheinland, VGH, WGV and ZURICH, among others, are users or recognizers of the solution.

The further development towards AI-supported applications on a standardized database is the logical continuation of this path and expands the use case from data usage to decision support.

Practical example: Product innovation with energy reference

A particularly visible use case is the cooperation with Schleswiger Versicherungsverein a. G. A residential building insurance policy was jointly developed in which energy indicators are an integral part of the product logic.

For this approach, the partners were awarded the insureNXT Innovators Award in the category Collaboration Champion excellent. The case shows how building data can be used in a way that is effective for products and tariffs.

External validation: maturity level beyond the industry
In addition to being used in the insurance market, SkenData's approach has also received external recognition. In 2025, SkenData was included in the German „TOP TENS“ list for energy efficiency.

The list is supported by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, the Federal Environment Agency, the Energy Efficiency Hub and the German Energy Agency (dena), among others, and recognizes solutions that combine energy efficiency, cost-effectiveness, reliability and ease of use.

Conclusion: A successful career with a system
The development of SkenData - from a data-driven use case to a scalable building operating system with AI-based applications - shows how InsurLab Germany works: not only through successful individual matches, but above all as an ecosystem that creates the conditions for market maturity through continuous networking, comparability and professional exchange.

The long-term integration of SkenData into the InsurLab network, combined with growing market use and external validation, makes this path comprehensible and is representative of a large number of similar developments within the industry initiative.
