Masterclass: Digital Sovereignty in the Insurance Industry

Control, Governance, and Architecture Decisions for the Secure and Scalable Deployment of AI

Insurers are increasingly scaling up their use of AI applications and, in doing so, are becoming more dependent on technology providers. At the same time, regulatory requirements regarding the ability to manage and control critical technologies are becoming more stringent. The challenge lies in translating digital sovereignty into concrete decisions regarding architecture, governance, and operations.

The master class by Forvis Mazars helps participants identify critical dependencies and derive specific decision-making questions for their own AI initiatives. Together with Tobias Schuster and André Prossner Participants will develop a practical understanding of digital sovereignty in the context of AI, data, and the cloud. Technical insights are complemented by interactive sessions in which participants reflect on real-world experiences, challenges, and potential solutions.

Why This Masterclass Is Relevant

The masterclass is a hands-on program. Insurers are expected to understand what digital sovereignty means and to work together to identify the control, governance, and architectural decisions required to deploy AI securely and at scale.

At its core, the issue boils down to one central question: If AI scaling increases interdependencies, how can data, infrastructure, AI systems, and governance be managed in a way that ensures control remains measurable and the ability to act is safeguarded?

Participants benefit from:

- Orientation: An understanding of which sovereignty requirements are relevant to AI, data, and cloud initiatives
– Rating: Assessment of Critical Dependencies and Control Points in Specific Initiatives
– Application: Deriving specific test questions for your own use cases and internal coordination
– Concrete work results: The Sovereignty Radar and Use Case Check as a foundation for further discussion within one’s own organization

Key Topics:

- Context & Relevance: Why is digital sovereignty becoming relevant for insurers now?
– Valuation & Governance Framework: What must insurers monitor, evaluate, and embed in their organizational structure?
– Technical options: Which architectural and operational models strengthen digital sovereignty?
– Application to insurance use cases: What requirements arise for specific AI initiatives?

Target group:

The masterclass is primarily aimed at insurance companies. It is particularly relevant for those responsible for strategy and innovation, IT, data, and architecture, as well as GRC and business unit leaders working with AI applications. Additional perspectives from the insurance ecosystem can help facilitate discussions of experiences, challenges, and potential solutions from different angles.
