Rethink Homeowners Insurance

How will the sector evolve over the next 3–5 years—and how can insurers strategically prepare for this?

Homeowners insurance is under significant economic and structural pressure—and this pressure continues to mount. Rising claims, regulatory requirements, and economic challenges are compounded by growing expectations regarding products, service, and efficiency. In this competitive landscape, AI is increasingly becoming a key differentiator and, at the same time, a central lever for addressing existing challenges. The central question is: How can insurers strategically develop this line of business under these conditions and position it for the future?

With „Rethink …,“ InsurLab Germany is launching a new series of events designed to systematically rethink key sectors and topics in the insurance industry. The goal is to examine developments from various perspectives, structure them collaboratively, and develop concrete solutions for practical application and for participants’ own business models.

The series kicks off with a focus on home insurance. The discussion centers on product design, pricing, underwriting, and portfolio management. Particular attention is also given to key claims challenges—such as water damage from plumbing—that have shaped the line of business for years and are becoming increasingly relevant. The role of AI in these areas will also be examined, for example in supporting underwriting or the data-driven management of portfolios. Questions regarding natural catastrophes and natural hazards are deliberately excluded and will be addressed in a separate format.

💡Topics at a glance:
• Rates, Data & Management
→ Pricing, deductible models, credit scores, and external data
• AI & Risk Management
→ AI in Product Development & Underwriting
• Prevention & Claims Management
→ Tap water, smart home, sensor technology, preventive services
• Sustainability & Product Logic
→ Energy Efficiency in Rates & Products

In addition to the in-person meeting At InsurLab Germany, there will be an optional virtual follow-up appointment enter:

  • A digital Follow-up on July 21 (11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.) to Further analysis of the results and discussion of possible next steps: REGISTER HERE

The event thrives on active discussion and collaborative work on specific real-world issues. In addition to analyzing current trends, participants jointly evaluate and refine existing solutions and offerings on the market. Another key component is the development of specific problems that can subsequently be addressed to external partners, such as startups, through a reverse pitching session—with the goal of identifying suitable solutions for real-world challenges.
