To strengthen our team in Cologne, we are looking for a working student (m/f/d) in the field of AI Automation & Applied AI to start as soon as possible. Are you a true AI nerd who enjoys putting new tools and technologies to the test and wants to do more than just talk about AI—you want to develop smart workflows, prototypes, and concrete solutions yourself? With your “builder” mindset, you combine curiosity, technical understanding, and a structured approach to work—and you’re eager to put AI to practical use in processes, knowledge work, and content? Then apply now!
Job Description:
At InsurLab Germany, the leading initiative for transformation and innovation in the insurance industry, you’ll work at the heart of a unique ecosystem. In this role, you’ll put artificial intelligence (AI) to practical use by developing smart workflows, supporting knowledge work, and helping to create new value for our members. We’re looking for people with a “builder” mindset who are eager to experiment with new technologies, combine them in meaningful ways, and use them to develop concrete solutions for processes, knowledge work, and content.
Your areas of responsibility:
Your responsibilities will focus on two interrelated areas of practice. The emphasis will be on the practical application of AI to automate workflows, make information more accessible, and develop new AI-powered solutions for our organization and our members—ranging from knowledge work to media production.
AI Automation:
- The Potential of AI in Practice: You’ll proactively identify new ways to use AI, test smart use cases for their practical value, and help us categorize them appropriately—both for internal work processes and for potential offerings, solutions, and formats for our members.
- Smart Workflows & Interfaces: You will design, test, and optimize AI-powered workflows for recurring tasks. In doing so, you will help us integrate applications, data sources, and systems using modern automation platforms.
- Prototyping & Testing: You’ll develop proofs of concept for new AI use cases, test tools and workflows, and evaluate which approaches create real added value for our work. You’ll document your findings in a way that makes them transparent and easy for the team to build upon.
Applied AI:
- Intelligent Knowledge Generation: You use modern AI models, particularly LLMs, to systematically analyze studies, reports, market analyses, and other sources of information, and to present relevant insights in a structured manner.
- Research, Analysis & AI Scouting: You will support the team with AI-driven research on innovation, transformation, and relevant topics in the insurance industry. As part of this, you will continuously monitor new developments in generative AI, agentic AI, and automation, and assess their potential for our work.
- AI-powered media production: You use modern AI tools to efficiently create, process, and prepare audio and video formats for various applications. This includes, in particular, recording, editing, post-production, transcription, audio cleaning, subtitling, snippet production, and the creation of simple visual accompaniments.
What you should bring with you:
- Currently pursuing a degree in Business Informatics, Computer Science, Media Informatics, Data Science, Software Engineering, Digital Business, or a comparable field of study.
- Advanced stage of studies and sufficient time available for long-term student involvement.
- Initial practical experience working with modern AI tools and large language models (LLMs) (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or similar applications).
- (AI) Nerd Mindset: You're eager to try out new developments in AI, automation, and digital tools and evaluate their practical benefits.
- A structured and independent approach to work.
- Interest in automation, digital workflows, and process optimization.
- Excellent written and spoken German.
Plus points, but not a must:
- First experiences with LLM APIs or AI agents, as well as with automation platforms such as Make, n8n, or Zapier.
- Basic knowledge of APIs, webhooks, or data integrations.
- Basic programming experience, such as with Python.
- Initial experience in audio, video, or content production.
- Experience with CRM systems such as HubSpot.
What we offer:
- The perfect, innovation-driven environment where you can put your passion for AI, automation, and digital innovation to work right away in a real organization.
- The opportunity to work independently and have room to contribute your own ideas as part of a small team with quick decision-making processes.
- The opportunity to try out new technologies and actively help shape how AI is used in a modern organization.
- Direct access to a strong network of insurers, tech companies, startups, and consulting firms—an ideal foundation for launching your career after graduation.
- Flexible working hours (12–20 hours per week; can be extended during semester breaks).
- Fair compensation in line with market rates.
- Location: Cologne—in the heart of downtown, near the cathedral, and with excellent public transportation access. You can expect modern, bright office spaces with plenty of room for collaboration, creativity, and teamwork.
